Summary
Sensing the mystic upheavals caused by the Juggernaut's separation from the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak, Dr Strange flies to the X-Men's mansion and finds the Juggernaut ensnared within the gem. With the Eye of Agamotto, he learns how Onslaught defeated the Juggernaut. Since Onslaught has no mystical powers, Strange concludes that he must be phenomenally powerful to have overcome the power of Cyttorak. Shortly, Gomurr the Ancient arrives. Leaving Strange to stand guard, he enter the Gem to try and rescue the Juggernaut.
Inside the Gem, the Juggernaut begins to experience a hallucination in which he was paralysed in the cave-in where he gained his superhuman powers, and is cared for in a hospital run by an able-bodied Charles Xavier, where other X-Men are (powerless) residents. However, he is not fooled for a second, and the hallucination ends when Gomurr arrives, revealing the fake Xavier as the demon Spite. Spite retreats, and the Juggernaut attacks Gomurr, demanding answers. However, severed from the Gem's power, the Juggernaut is easily defeated.
Gomurr explains that the landscape within the Gem is psychosensitive and is responding to the Juggernaut's psyche. He takes the Juggernaut to a replica of the X-Men's mansion, where they witness the events that led to the Juggernaut's bitterness against Charles Xavier. Gomurr tells the Juggernaut that his hatred will eventually consume him, and Cyttorak's power will turn on him. Cain agrees to return to the real world as a normal human being, but Spite arrives and tells him that he could instead remain and gain even more power, allowing them both to escape this dimension. She dismisses Gomurr's claims, telling him that the Juggernaut is too strong-willed to lose control of his power. Gomurr, she says, wants the power of the Juggernaut for himself, and so wants to remove Cain. Despite Gomurr's denials, the Juggernaut believes Spite and goes with her to reclaim his power, leaving Gomurr in Spite's mystical bonds. However, Tar soon arrives to release him.
Spite takes the Juggernaut to Cyttorak's throne room, where the mystic entity appears as a massive stone statue vaguely resembling the Juggernaut. She tells Cyttorak that Cain will form the vessel that allows him to return to Earth, and Cain realises too late that he has been tricked. Having no further need for Spite, Cyttorak consumes her, and then demands that Cain surrender. Cain refuses, and resists, despite having no superhuman powers. However, Gomurr and Tar arrive to assist. Though they cannot destroy the power of Cyttorak, they can force it to take another form, and so they give the power to the Juggernaut. It may not be an ideal solution, but it is better than unleashing Cyttorak's most destructive aspect upon the Earth. With the Gem's power, the Juggernaut destroys Cyttorak and becomes the permanent repository for the power. Without Cyttorak, the dimension ceases to exist. Gomurr and Tar flee to the Crimson Dawn, while the Juggernaut appears back in the mansion with Strange. He feels better than ever, but Strange knows that his power will eventually ruin his soul.
