Summary
Kyle (Green Lantern) is up to his old tricks again, trying to recruit and resurrect the Green Lantern Corps, but the small amount of recruits that show up aren't really interested in the job. It seems the hatred for Earthlings has grown wild since Hal Jordan betrayed the Corps.
Kyle explains the situation at hand -- about Abin Sur and the Black Circle -- to the few that answered his distress beacons, but they are hardly interested and sneer that the Black Circle cannot be stopped. Kyle argues and pleads with them, using Oa and the resurrection of the Guardians as proof that anything can happen, but it's not enough.
Kyle then sets out to prove that the Green Lantern Corps can still serve a purpose. He winds up saving a political leader from assassination on a world populated by artificial intelligent machines. Because of this, the worlds political power is safe for another 200 years.
The captain of a small research vessel miscalculates and ends up getting a little too close to a binary star. He makes another mistake when he orders his crew to evacuate into pods and abandon ship. The pods have nothing against the powerful gravitation forces of the star. It seems they are all doomed...
...until Kyle shows up and saves, not only the pods, but the ship as well. He places them on a nearby planet to await their retrieval.
Agaria-7 is a farming planet that produces 90% of all the food in their corner of space. Millions would starve by the hoard of giant insects destroying the crops...until Kyle Rayner shows up and gets rid of the infestation.
Now satisfied with what he's done, Kyle returns to Oa, but his Green Lantern hopefuls are all gone. It seems his little show of heroics wasn't enough to convince them.
Back on Earth, Terry Berg is swarmed with emails and phone calls offering him the chance to tell his story (he was recently nearly beaten to death for being gay). He's now moved into an apartment with his boyfriend David as an attempt to get rid of his parents and their lack of support for his life-style.
But when he gets a message from his dad, telling him that he's shamed the family and is continuing to do so, Terry decides it's time to tell the world his story.
Kyle meets up with Kilowog, former Green Lantern and now glowing blue guy, to pay up on his bet about the success of recruiting a Corps. Kilowog is having problems sleeping but tells Kyle that the Black Circle isn't the real reason he wants to recruit a Corps.
He tells Kyle that he needs to figure out why he really wants to do it before he can be successful. Kyle heads off into space and discovers that the real reason he wants a Corps is simply because he's alone.
But until then, he says he has the words... "In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might...beware my power, Green Lantern's light" to keep him going.
