Fatal Attractions
Summary
X-Force returns to Arizona, and Feral smells an intruder, so they split up to search the camp. Each is ambushed in turn, but then Sam counterattacks. Turns out it was Cable (his idea of a "Hi, howya been?"). He greets the team, and explains it was Stryfe who killed Rictor's father, and Gideon Roberto's. He hugs Sam and calls him "son," promising to be less military and more like family from now on. He determines that Stryfe implanted neural tissue into Rusty and Skids to control them, like he did Tyler (he lied when he said Tyler was dead, iss. 1). He plans to fix them on Greymalkin.
Sam doesn't trust him, so Cable summarizes his history (sent to the future to stop Apocalypse, but failed, so came back to stop him early through Sam).
Exodus arrives, wanting to take Sam and Roberto to Avalon. He easily defeats X-Force, makes his offer, and agrees with Sam to take the other ex-New Mutants (Rictor, Boomer, Rusty, Skids), as well. Sam has arranged for Cable to trace them, and all are very impressed with Sam.
Exodus gives them the tour of Avalon, formerly Greymalkin. Professor has been silenced, and Magneto is in charge. He routes Rusty and Skid's blood flow to kill Stryfe's brain implants, freeing them.
Cable flies up with the rest of the team, realizes Greymalkin has been commandeered, feels violated, and breaks in. Exodus attacks.
Sam tells Cable to let Magneto keep the station, as a haven for mutants. Rusty and Skids are staying. Cable retrieves Professor, but Magneto attacks him before he can self-destruct the base, turning him into half a pile of scrap metal. He bodyslides away. Magneto realizes he has lost the philosophical battle for leadership of the next generation of mutants.
