Summary
Tourists watch a presentation at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. The new Brotherhood of Mutants interrupts, saying this is where the enslavement of the human race begins. They attack the crowd as their leader, Exodus, asserts Magneto's dream to end human tyranny. The X-Men are in civilian disguise in the crowd, and Alex blasts Exodus. Logan naturally attacks Creed and puts him down. Avalanche grabs Rogue and shakes her up, but she has siphoned off Lorna's power and magnetically tosses him into the ground. Bobby is grabbed by Mammomax, in the shape of an elephant with impervious skin, but Bobby touches its tongue and freezes it from the inside. Black Tom emerges tree-like from the ground and threatens some tourists, but his own teammate, Nocturne (last seen Exiles 48), gets them to safety, while Alex blasts Tom apart, leaving a large crater in the middle of Philadelphia. Bobby criticizes Alex again, noting the Brotherhood escaped in the aftermath of the explosion.
Sammy has been looking for Cain; the X-Men return, and Bobby's in a furor, saying Cain's supposed to be helping them, as part of his parole, and he threatens to turn him in. Carter runs to hug Alex, which sickens Sammy. Rogue goes to Remy's sickbed; he's angry she let him be blinded, so she walks away dejected. Annie says he's just mad at the world; she's surprised Alex let the Brotherhood escape; he suggests she take Carter somewhere safe before the school is attacked.
Sammy's mother comes looking for him, but he's still looking for Cain. She says she may start dating him, but he thinks she'll embarrass him and walks away.
Lorna levitates in her room. Annie finds her there and says she's leaving and not coming back; she asks her to look after Alex. She's sorry but has to keep Carter safe; Lorna reminds her Alex loves her, but she insists on leaving.
The Brotherhood huddle around a campfire. Creed thinks someone tipped off the X-Men, and it must have been the new girl, Nocturne, but Exodus reminds him she's from another dimension and never left his side. Tom thinks his plan was best: attack the mansion. He has an inside man: Cain emerges from the woods.
