Foreshadowing

Summary

  Annie drives away; Carter didn't have time to say goodbye to Alex or Sammy, but she doesn't want him to do so by telepathy, sure she'd turn back if she had to face Alex. Outside the gate, Jean-Paul blocks the road; he agrees with Carter: you're not supposed to leave without saying goodbye, but he knew this day would come and wonders if he should leave, too, now that Xavier's gone. They hug; Carter tells them Sammy's just been killed and the mansion is under attack.

  Remy tries to charge a card; blind, he asks Annie to tell him if it's glowing, but she's not there. He peeks out from his blindfold and is surprised: he sees a vision of the approaching Brotherhood, on the face of an ace (a secondary mutation, evidently).

  The Brotherhood approaches; Exodus wants everyone dead as payback for killing Magneto (or so it appeared iss. 150; cf. Excalibur II:2).

  Remy wanders down the hall, vainly calling for help. He hears Mindee playing piano and tells her to look out the window; she obliges but says nothing can get past Emma's defenses, but then a body crashes through the window, thrown by Creed. Remy tosses a card but misses; Creed grabs Mindee and bares his fangs; Mindee acts as Remy's eyes, and a card goes right down Creed's throat. After it explodes, she punches him away, but she can't control his mind: a cesspool, so she gets Remy to charge more cards.

  Exodus attacks the telepathic defenses and blasts the building, just as Creed is blasted back out the window. Avalanche attacks Mindee, but his backup Creed disappears, and Mindee telepathically attacks him. Jean-Paul speeds away with Creed, who says he's more of a girl than his sister (Aurora, kidnapped in Wolverine II:173, attacked by Creed in Weapon X II:2, and missing since Weapon X II:22). Jean-Paul bashes him through many trees and leaves him unconscious in a clearing while he checks on the team.

  Logan and Polaris find Sammy's broken corpse; Nocturne shows herself and explains: Juggernaut pretended to kill her but is really a good guy and sent her to find help. She blames herself for the attack on the Institute.

  Cain carps while Bobby uses his ice power to dig up Alex, who then starts digging for Xorn.

  Tom trashes the mansion, root and branch; Exodus attacks Remy and Mindee. Black Tom attacks Rogue, who's absorbed Logan's power. He prepares to snap her like he did Sammy and wonders if Logan's healing power will regenerate her to look like him.

  Cain, impatient, punches the ground to make a hole, which could have killed Xorn but didn't. He doesn't breathe, so he was just meditating till they found him. Jean-Paul runs up and warns them about the attack; Logan and Polaris arrive, and Alex rallies them to put and end to this.
