One For My Lady One More For The Road
Summary

The team relaxes in Valle Soleada but is interrupted by a news flash: Magneto has devastated New York (X-Men II:147) and massacred many. Footage shows Logan beheading him (X-Men II:150), and reports are that Xavier's has been destroyed. This, the worst terrorist attack of the 21st century, may be the opening shot of a war to determine the fate of humanity.

The team prepares to return to New York, but a crowd has gathered outside their door, volunteering to assist. Sunspot starts organizing, recruiting Lila to teleport everyone. Rogue takes Sage aside, and then she seduces Remy. When he kisses her, energy rushes around them; he wakes, demanding to know what was done to him; Sage tosses him a card, and it charges in his hand. Remy asks if Sage can do this for Rogue, too, but she's still working on it.

Mutants and heroes and civilians come from around the world to help New York rebuild. Archangel finds Ororo in the skies, and she assumes he's there to blame her for Betsy's death (iss. 3); instead, he wants to make sure she's okay about Jean's death (X-Men II:150). They hug. Lucas finds Sage in the bushes, prepared to shoot Ororo if needed: since Tokyo, she's been extreme. Sage is concerned about her and the world, both of which have entered chaotic times.

Ororo flies to Westchester and greets Wolfsbane, who turns into a werewolf and runs from her. Moonstar apologizes for her, saying her senses are hyperactive, and Ororo isn't the same as she remembers. Sam finds Magma in her ruined room, with a driver's license in the name Allison Crestmere (cf. New Warriors 31). He asks who she really is; she says when Archangel healed her (actually Josh Foley, New Mutants II:7), it brought back memories, and Amara Aquilla is her true identity.

Rachel helps Kitty work on Cerebra; she decides to take her mother's original codename, Marvel Girl. They go upstairs to find Remy teaching Lucas how to cook jambalaya. New York is suing Xavier, and the team wonders how they can atone for Magneto's attack. Moonstar rejects an offer to join Ororo's team, wanting to teach at the school instead.

Ororo gives the toast: mutants are hated everywhere, and many countries are proposing laws to put them in concentration camps, but the dream still lives, and the X-Men will try to keep the peace. She offers her team XSE badges (see iss. 36).

Note: the series ends, and Claremont continues on Uncanny X-Men, starting with iss. 444.
