Summary
After busting open the door, Logan is confronted by Epsilon Red. Elena Ivanovna still believes that Wolverine was the man who was sent to kill him. Logan still doesn't recognize Epsilon Red. He still thinks though that Terry Adams is a person, and that Epsilon Red is Terry Adams, and so Logan gives chase for Epsilon Red to kill him since he still believes that is what his mission is. Inside, Logan runs past vacuum tube technology, and eventually, he finds Epsilon Red, who thinks Logan is crazy.
As the fight progresses, Logan has a flashback of this fight, and how someone steps in between them just as Logan unleashes a clawed punch. It was too late for him to stop though, and he injures Epsilon Red's wife, who was pregnant. The punch did not hurt the baby though. Epsilon Red tells Logan to leave his wife alone and instead, finish him off. He takes off his containment suit, which causes his cells to expand outward. Epsilon Red's wife explains how the suit maintains a vacuum for Epsilon Red because his body had been altered to survive the nothingness of space, which meant that the pressures on earth would hurt him. Epsilon Red insists that he kill him, but Logan can't do it.
Suddenly, Logan finds himself back into reality, and Epsilon Red was exclaiming how Logan remembered this past event. He believes that Logan is in a time/slip, and offers to help Logan learn more about himself because he himself is a psi-talent.
Meanwhile, the X-Men (Jubilee, Colossus, Psylocke, Cyclops, and Iceman) are on the Blackbird bound for the space station in Russia.
Meanwhile, back inside the base, Epsilon Red has just finished probing Logan's mind and talks about how he was clogged with false memory implants and total blocks, and that he has permanent scarring of some of his memories. As a result, this is causing Logan to think that the current year is 1968 and that his main mission was to pre-empt the Soviet manned moon shot and prevent Epsilon Red from walking on the moon. Epsilon Red continues, telling Logan how a year later, the U.S. sent Neil Armstrong to walk on the moon, which made his mission a low priority to the Russians. Epsilon Red offers to probe Logan's mind and excise the memories within Logan that was making him believe that the year was 1968, and he'd show Logan what actually happen back then.
In his mind, Epsilon Red shows what happened. Logan was close to killing Epsilon Red until Sabretooth bursts in. (At this time, Logan and Sabretooth were working as CIA operatives). Sabretooth imediately tells Logan that their mission has been ordered to abort, and that Epsilon Red was to be left alive. Logan immediately leaves while Sabretooth covers for him.
Back to reality, Epsilon Red tells Logan that what he had just done won't restore what memories have been erased, and that there were some blocks that he can't take out which would make Logan insane if they were, but he does take out some other memory blocks, even though it would hurt Logan considerably. Epsilon Red does it, and flashes of very painful memories within Logan are clensed out by Epsilon Red. Logan is grateful for what Epsilon Red has done for him, by showing himself more than he's ever seen before. He asks if there was anything Epsilon Red wishes for him to do, and he replies "...go home." Epsilon Red's wish was to go into space where his natural habit is, and where he can survive and be free. Some security team from the base tries to apprehend them, but Logan easily takes them out.
Some time later, the X-Men arrives on the Blackbird, and finds Logan. They are homebound (with a quick stop into Siberia for Colossus' sake). Epsilon Red had boarded the space shuttle that was being launched that day at the base, and he is finally in space where he can be free.
Back inside the base (mission control), the person in charge at that base was yelling at Elena for allowing Logan to enter the base, forcing them to allow her father, who generated most of the money for their base, to return to space, and lying to Logan that Epsilon Red was not the actual psi-talent, but that she, herself, was. She explains to the director that she did not let Logan see everything that happened that day: of how after Logan escaped, Sabretooth had stayed behind for a moment, and had shot and killed her mother, forcing Elena to be born by C-section. With this knowedge, she was able to obtain some information from Logan's mind as to the whereabouts of Sabretooth so that she can find him and kill him for what he had done to her mother.
