Summary
St. Ann's Church in the Bronx, where X-Man Nightcrawler is seen deep in prayer. From behind, he is attacked by a tentacle ... that which belonged to Omega Red. Turning around, he sees that not only was he attacked by Omega Red, Omega Red had also teamed up with Lady Deathstrike. Nightcrawler attempts to escape with the aid of his teleportation abilities, only to have Omega Red's death spores do their job in making Nightcrawler sick and groggy. Lady Deathstrike dumps Nightcrawler's groggy body into the nearby river.
Somewhere back in Canada, as Logan is seen with Shaman who was trying to aid Logan by using his mystical powers to determine whom might want to do Logan harm. Logan was still concerned about Mauvais' departing words in the previous issue. As they were talking, they receive a transmission from James and Heather Hudson (aka Guardian and Vindicator) aboard a jet that they were flying. Heather explains her absence during Alpha Flight and Logan's encounter with Mauvais as she was pregnant. Suddenly, their airplane encounters problem as they lose two engines. Unknown to them, their plane had been sabotaged while in flight from underneath by Omega Red and Lady Deathstrike. Their plane is forced to do an emergency crash landing behind a mountain. As Shaman notifies Sasquatch, who was near that aerea, to find them, he suddenly realizes that perhaps Mauvais' prediction about impending danger was not directed towards Logan directly, but perhaps towards his loved ones.
To Tokyo, Japan, as Yukio is seen storming through the streets of Japan. She drags Amiko, Logan's adopted daughter, out, scoulding at her for hanging out with "hooligans". Amiko counters by saying that Yukio does the same thing. Yukio threatens to tell Logan on her, while Amiko wonders why Logan would even care as he was never around in the first place. As they were arguing, Omega Red and Lady Deathstrike approaches to cause harm to them. Yukio duels it out against Lady Deathstrike, but Omega Red uses his carbonadium tentacles to grab Amiko. Yukio rushes to aid Amiko, giving Lady Deathstrike the opportunity to grab her and rip her back open with her long cyborg nails.
Back at the X-Mansion, where Logan was on a call with Cyclops. Logan tells Cyclops about what had happened with the Hudsons and Alpha Flight, while Cyclops tells Logan that they were on high alert after they had fished out a near-dead Nightcrawler from the East river. Logan tells Cyclops to check on all the people close to him (Kitty Pryde, Jubilee, Carol Danvers, etc.) while he flies to Japan to check on Yukio and Amiko, praying that he was not too late.
A the Weapon X compound, where the director of the Weapon X program was showing Dr. Windsor, a new hiree, around. The director shows the doctor a new Weapon X program weapon that they had built to counterattack mutants, which he coined the Mutant Power Cannon (MPC). When asked how it worked, the director says it amplifies a mutant's power and can use it against anyone in the world. Currently, they had enslaved the mutant known as Leech inside. Suddenly, the machine powers up and a blast is shot from the cannon. The director demands to know from Agent Jackson (who was in charge of the machine) as to why the cannon had activated and where the blast had been directed. Jackson investigates, and finds that the cannon had been directed towards Canada, and the person who had activated the MPC was the director's own codes. The blast, unkonwing to them, had been aimed towards Logan.
Shaman meets up with Logan, who was suddenly very weak. Shaman helps him to his feet, telling Logan that perhaps it was the stress that was causing Logan to be tired. Logan rams his fist into the wall, saying that he know it isn't stress which was causing it. Shaman points out that Logan's fist was bleeding. Logan laughs it off, then suddenly realizes that his healing factor wasn't kicking in to heal his wound. He suddenly realizes that his enhanced senses, his other mutant powers, were gone.
In Las Vegas, at the Bellagio Hotel, Sabretooth is seen with pictures of Logan's loved ones and a disk in his hand, planning out their next attack.
(Side story: Aurora is seen taken off with Sasquatch, her boyfriend, by her side, inside a medical ambulance to seek treatment for her split personality condition. As they were riding off to a hospital that specialized in these type of cases and care, Sasquatch receives a call from Shaman to investigate on the Hudsons whose plane had disappeared near his area. He leaves the ambulance, instructing the driver to continue on to the hospital to where Aurora was to get her care at. The ambulance driver continues on his way. Suddenly, he is trapped by a gang of motorcyclist bearing the Weapon X logo, and is force off the road. He is dragged out of the ambulance and killed on the spot. The motorcyclist gang takes off with his ambulance and Aurora in the back.
Elsewhere, Agent Jackson is seen reporting to the director that their men had captured Aurora and was sending her to the designated facility of their choosing. He wonders why they had not taken her directly to their location. The director's reply was that if they did that, their program would be suspected again, and they had to allow a cooling off period ... sending Aurora to another treatment facility ... until things settled down, when they could retrieve her later on.)
