SOME ANGELS FALLING

Summary

Scott flies an X-jet to Paris, where Xavier presides over Darkstar's funeral in Pere LaChaise cemetery. In Westchester, Warren has the newbies practice flying, to a Shi'ar ship nearby. Angel is insolent but the Beak has no self-confidence, and they squabble. The Beak falls; Angel goes to help him and kisses him on the beak.

Emma chides Hank for being a bad example (!), by telling the press he's gay as a practical joke. Hank warns her not to mess with Scott's marriage: "It's undignified. And Jean will kill you."

Scott flies Logan home, but Emma uses Cerebra to enter Scott's mind, distracting him, so Logan takes over the controls. She gives him an illusion of them parchuting out of an old bomber, over south Provence, where she lived after the finishing school she attended burnt down. Scott just wanted a little marriage counseling, but she wants him to trust her first. He has no parachute, just old costumes of his and Jean's, and he falls into Emma's cousin Jocasta's wedding (she never liked her). They land on pillows and find themselves in a candle-lit library.

Scott is uncomfortable, but Emma says telepaths share thoughts this way all the time. She says she's a qualified sex therapist and that she understands Jean and Scott: she's a controlled furnace, and the only one she's afraid of is Scott, who holds back his own "volcanic passion." He admits his marriage has changed, and he no longer thinks he's special; Emma says he's just bothered the dark side of himself Apocalypse showed him (cf. Search for Cyclops LS). She puts on Jean's Dark Phoenix costume and wants to role-play; Scott asks if they're having an affair, now.

Aboard the Shi'ar ship, Warren has his students help with repairs, before the fleet returns to their homeworld. Angel flies in and dumps the Beak on them; he had wanted to spend a year in space, where he wouldn't be so much of a freak, but now that a girl actually kissed him, he wants to stay. Angel collects money from the other girls, who had bet her she wouldn't kiss him.

Emma mimicks Jean, "I can't help playing with fire," and Scott starts to remove his jacket, ready to play along.
