Summary
X-Men and allies rendezvous in the ruins of Genosha, where Magneto died (iss. 115). Sabra says good riddance, but Quicksilver reminds her he was his father. Impatient, he rushes around the city and comes across Unus, huddled in fetal position.
Xavier and Jean arrive and sense the deaths of 16 million mutants. They greet their friends and then check on Unus, who insists ghosts went through his personal force field, led in a procession by a girl with green hair: Lorna.
Xavier checks in with Ororo, who says ghosts come in many forms. They've detected magnetic anomalies and some living minds; some people think Magneto survived (cf. X-Men Unlimited 36), and they search the radioactive waste. They see ruined Mega-Sentinels, and a face seems to be forming on it; inside they find Toad and cronies. Xavier avoids a fight, convincing Toad to help them find Lorna, who was aiding Magneto (X-Men I:379, Magneto: Dark Seduction LS). Shocker says he saw her gathering the dead; Quicksilver realizes the villains are making a monument to Magneto, and he decides to help.
Jean senses thoughts, and Ororo disturbances in the air. They follow them to Lorna, debris and thought remnants swirling around her. Her nervous system is overloaded with memories of the last moments of Genosha, and Ororo swoops in, getting her out of the maelstrom. Jean sends in Neal, who is immune to radiation, to see what's there, and he finds a black box; Lorna raves in Magneto's voice; he had recorded his last thoughts, saying, "Now I will be a voice in the darkness, echoing forever." He is an electromagnetic broadcast, traveling through space and time. The X-Men ponder this.
