Living in a Mansion

Summary

Kurt walks down a hall in the mansion, passing two students who are completely intimidated by him, and enters Bobby's ice-filled room. Bobby is quickly freezing and melting figurines, to make them appear to move. Kurt invites him to help Stacy get her stuff back from the ruined X-Ranch (iss. 399), but Bobby doesn't like her hanging around, and says only the original team is really the X-Men. Kurt, offended, leaves.

Sammy finds Cain about to leave; he says he needs to get away from "freak central," offending Sammy, who has a fish-head. Shamed, Cain lets the boy tag along.

In the infirmary, Annie unwraps bandages from Stacy, whose skin has grown back, no longer scaly; as a teen, her scales had kept her stepfather away from her. She shocks Annie by saying she was a prostitute, and Scott yells at her to take her show outside, since Xavier is trying to contact Alex's mind. He says there's a thread left, and with Jean and Emma's help they may be able to bring him back. Also, Lorna is on her way. Annie bandages Jean-Paul; he wonders how she could fall in love with a comatose man; she jokes she may be a closet necrophiliac.

Cain takes the boy to a dilapidated house; Sammy asks why he wanted to kill Xavier; he himself had planned to kill his schoolmates (iss. 410). Cain says nobody considers himself a villain, and he blamed Xavier for his father's death. He throws a stone at the house, smashing many of the windows in one shot, and then he blames Sammy for making him do it. This was the house he grew up in.

Over the Midwest, Warren flies alongside the Blackbird; Stacy asks Kurt about him, and he says he recently broke up with his girlfriend (X-Men II:109), who was then killed (X-treme X-Men 3).

Cain puts on his helmet and starts bashing down the house while remembering his father, drunk and beating him.

Stacy gets her stuff, including a picture of her with the girls (Fat Nancy, Madam Drache), and some private videos. She tells Kurt they were really just little girls playing dress up, "trailer trash living in a mansion."

Sammy gives Cain a root beer and asks what that was about; Cain says he's blamed others for his own mistakes, just like his father blamed him. He and Sammy are alone with no friends, but now they get to live in Xavier's mansion.
