The Pume of Miss Emma Frost

Summary

Note: this is Riot at Xavier's, Conclusion.

Hank grabs two men out of their car just before Herman runs into it, exploding it. Hank runs after Herman like a panther but fails to catch him; he's still chasing the bus (last iss.). Scott and Xorn, in another car, catch up; Scott zaps Herman down, and Xorn traps him in cement from a handy, nearby truck. He starts crying, and Hank tells him to stop; he'll live.

In the gym, Logan lectures the other Omegas; they're going to human jail, and after that, Xavier will make them help people in poor countries. Radian tries to blame Quentin for it all, but Logan isn't buying.

Emma takes the Cuckoos to build a shrine to Sophie in the rose garden, but the girls think that would be pointless. They're transferring to study with Miss LaFarge in Switzerland and now think Emma is heartless, a bad influence, and old. Emma, hurt and then angry, turns to diamond and claims she's only twenty-seven.

Quentin is in a medical tank; his neurons are turning to faster-than-light energy and disappearing. Hank theorizes it's a secondary mutation triggered by the drug abuse. Xavier talks to the boy as he starts hearing minds around the world in every language. He says they all have the same thought, divided into ignorant boxes, everyone scared. Xavier has heard it, too, the loneliness and loss of a world without telepathy. Quentin feels himself streaming into bigger rooms and realizes he hasn't met his parents because he hasn't been born yet. Xavier has Hank "fetch" Xorn, who may be the last chance to save the boy.

Quentin sees time: Manhattan gone; the school gigantic. He asks if Xavier has really missed the point; Xavier says he's done good things and made terrible mistakes. Xorn enters and senses the boy is changing, and they shouldn't interfere. He opens his mask and shows him the star in his head, and Quentin passes.

Xavier announces the passing to the students, and that they can continue their protest if they want, but when the school closes for summer in six days, he's resigning as headmaster.

Emma picks Angel as her next project and takes her shopping in Manhattan. Angel tries to talk to her about "important stuff," but Emma's focused on her own makeover plans.

Xavier moderates the end-of-year prizegiving ceremony, honoring the four remaining Cuckoos for telepathy and bravery, and Beak and Angel as potential X-Men of the future. Those two are absent, however, trudging through the woods together. Angel tells Beak she's pregnant, and they'll be thrown out of school unless they do something fast. The Cuckoos decide to test their telepathy by contacting Jean, flying home commercial with Dust (iss. 133). They tell her about Emma and Scott.

Scott finds Emma almost crying in the garden and says he needs to make a decision; she ignores him and takes him into a mental fantasy, with herself as Dark Phoenix. Scott says he's betraying his wife, but Emma says it's just thoughts; Scott says Apocalypse manipulated him this way (Search for Cyclops LS), making everything seem boring afterwards, and he succumbs to her seduction. Just then Jean breaks in on them, half-naked in bed.

Note: The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969) is a film about a teacher. Emma first appeared 23 years ago in X-Men Vol I:129, Jan-80.
