Riot at Xaviers

Summary

Note: this is Riot at Xavier's Part 3.

Kid Omega looks out the window and gloats to Xavier. He wants to tear down everything but he claims he's not a monster or a terrorist but just young, and it's his right. He mentions he found Magneto's schematics for the helmet on the internet; Xavier agrees he had many good ideas and "could dance the tango to championship standards. He was also a psychopathic murderer." Tattoo asks where he was when humans killed Carnation; Redneck says humans bomb their cities; Radian says all Xavier does is invite them to dinner.

Outside, Angel and Xorn sense the mood turning ugly. Hank says Logan has gone to check on Xavier and has Emma move the students away.

Tattoo says the X-Men will stop them soon; Kid Omega has Redneck light Herman's hands on fire, and he napalms the spectators below the window. Everyone runs; Emma congratulates the Cuckoos on being right again; this is "appalling" but probably just another petulant cry for help. She misses the verve of her previous class; now it's all bored stares and broken windows. The Cuckoos remind her that class was killed (X-Men I:281); Emma transforms to diamond and says they shouldn't dwell on the down side. Kid Omega shouts to seize the school; Emma asks, "And then what?"

Xavier says he can understand the attraction of violent change, and he used to imagine using his power to short-circuit the minds of despots; Kid Omega says it's different since Genosha; Xavier says real change takes lifetimes; Tattoo tapes his mouth shut.

They walk down the hall and find Logan waiting for them: end of the road. He tells Kid Omega that he's just acting superior when he's just confused. Kid Omega reasserts his mutiny against Xavier and uses psi-powers to pull a thought from Logan's mind and trap him in it. Logan finds himself amid staircases in every direction, and voices calling him "James" (see Origin LS). Logan is able to mutter that the Kid has "stones", as the gang walks past him.

An explosion at the door; casualties; Dummy's suit is ripped apart; Xavier sheds a silent tear. Scott, Hank, and Xorn order the gang to stop; Redneck asks why they didn't avenge Carnation; Scott blasts his face, breaking his nose; Hank says police investigation showed Carnation died from an overdose of Kick. Humans aren't responsible for everything.

Radian says he's lying and knocks the X-Men down with a blast of energy. Scott, tumbling, blasts Radian's leg, then rises and says the student performance is poor. Tattoo, phasing, puts her hand in his head and threatens to kill him if she solidifies; Emma arrives and puts her hand in Tattoo's head so she can't.

Herman, completely aflame, chases a bus fleeing the mansion. Hank tells Scott that Open Day is ruined, unless they salvage it by effortlessly calming things as a demonstration of mutant teaching skills.

The Cuckoos get to Cerebra, and Sophie enters, taking Kick to help boost her power, despite Esme's warning that Kid Omega is dangerous.

Kid Omega, bullwhip in hand, says he was promised peace and security all his life, but it never came. Xavier arrives, having loosed the helmet but not the tape on his mouth. Kid Omega says he can see around his thoughts and knows he's made him question all his assumptions. Xavier tells him it's over now; his revolution lasted minutes. Kid Omega says the students don't need to be educated as victims; Xavier says he's the only one who feels like a victim.

Four of the Cuckoos burst through the wall with Sophie's floating head. Sophie says this isn't a battle between youth and experience, but just "In versus Out." Kid Omega, under psi and TK barrage, says he started his own movement so they'd look up to him; they respond, simply, "Ewww," and blow him away. Fetal, he babbles, saying he didn't mean it, he just wanted to change things, to be famous, because he was adopted, and he didn't want to hurt anyone.

Emma arrives holding Sophie's body, to Xavier and Kid Omega's horror.
