TimeBreakers

Summary

Barnell gets the scoop from the bug that released him: there is no Timebroker; the bugs recruited them to fix realities they broke; one of their recruits turned on them, and Barnell has to stop him. The bug also says, "Sorry."

Hyperion is the most powerful being they recruited for the Weapon X team, and if he could operate the Panoptichron himself he'd exterminate them. After he took over, he made them destroy two universes, to see if it could be done, though they warned him it would destabilize the omniverse. Then he turned to revenge on the Exiles, sending them to a magic world where they'd forget who they are (iss. 54), and letting Tanaraq lead the team (iss. 58), and trying to turn them on each other (iss. 59). They survived it all, so he sent them to the AOA as punishment (iss. 60), pulling Barnell and Heather out to replace them with more disruptive members.

Barnell wonders why he didn't just kill them; the bug says he'll lose control of the Panoptichron if he leaves, plus he likes toying with them.

The Exile face Hyperion in the desert, worrying that he just killed Kevin. He grabs Namora and tries to eye-blast her; when Clarice uses her crystals to redirect his blast at him; he spins and uses Namora as a shield. He tells Clarice she needs a new trick and then demonstrates one: he spins, causing a one-man sandstorm, while Namora, in agony, crawls out the door.

Calvin only has half of Northstar's speed, so he hopes half of light-speed is enough. He flies around, turns to steel, and rams Hyperion, felling them both.

Barnell asks how a high-school student can do against Hyperion; the bug says the Panoptichron only calculates probability, and they're not certain what will happen. Beak says he needs to work on his pep talks. The bug says he stopped Tanaraq, but he says he just ran for help; he sees the monitors of other realities and realizes he does know what to do.

Clarice rushes to Calvin, who's woozy; when Hyperion wakes, she blinks away. Hyperion is beginning to see why the bugs recruited these Exiles; Creed rises and challenges him, but Hyperion says he picked Creed, to distract Clarice, and he leaves him in the desert while he hunts the Exiles. He finds Clarice, who tosses a crystal at him, but he had the bugs research her power, and he vibrates so she can't blink him away. She says she was trying to blink him into pieces; he says it's wishful thinking, and he killed every hero on his world. Namora rises from the ocean room and says she did, too; she twists his neck and pulls him underwater, saying he's not the first to underestimate her strength. Clarice tells Calvin she thinks it worked, but Hyperion quickly recovers and blasts Namora. The steam fells Clarice, and Hyperion emerges from it, saying Namora is "fish chowder."

He's enjoyed being challenged like this and will miss them; Barnell appears and says he's in luck: there's more of them, and they're not giving up. Hyperion thinks it's a joke, but Barnell says he's done some traveling while his friends were getting killed; his strength is to make friends, and he brought back two good Hyperions, ready to stop the evil one.
