The Blood of the Righteous

Summary

Blackwood has renounced his life as Crusader and become a monk, but he is restless. When a newspaper delivery truck wrecks, he sees Nate touted as a "faith healer", gets a mad on, and takes the sword again.

Nate, floating above a rainy London, catches suicidal Colleen when she jumps off London Bridge. She's a drunk rock star wannabe runaway diagnosed as manic-depressive. When she realizes who he is, she asks him to heal her mind. He explains his telepathy is gone, but she just takes it as rejection and storms out. Nate goes to find her.

Crusader publicly announces his challenge to Nate, who faces him and soon finds that mystic shields and swords are hard to beat. Crusader cuts a beam, endangering Colleen, whom Nate saves. Crusader realizes his error, his power fades, and the monks take him back. Colleen's near-death experience convinces her to live.
