Summary

  Dugan coordinates with military around the world; Cap leaves with the Avengers: what they did "back then" they did as soldiers under orders, and he isn't afraid of the consequences.

  The Samurai uses his long sword and keeps away from Logan's claws. It makes Logan smile; he keeps his distance, too, really wanting to get information. They dodge each other, a stalemate, so the Samurai changes tactics. He starts answering, shocking Logan, giving him an opening to impale him with his sword. Logan just grabs the Samurai and "disarms" him, slicing his forearm off. He answers Logan's questions; Logan removes the sword from his belly and returns it to him, leaving him with his honor, since he has no use for it himself.

  Expecting SHIELD to let him slip away, he returns to the sewers, bleeding, and walks back to a mark he made. He punches through the side of the tunnel and is washed out to sea; badly wounded and shocked by what the Samurai told him, he swims over to a cargo ship and collapses in the hold, next to a blue car. He wakes in the dark, unsure how long he's been there. Starving, he slices off parts of his own arm to eat, and thankfully passes out again.

  He has different nightmares, always the same: Rose, Silver Fox, Cassie Lathrop, Mariko Yoshida, all women he loved. He can't see Mariko's face, only the blood (see vol. II:57), and then the "kill light" goes on, blinding him. It fills his brain, wiping out his thoughts; he realizes they caught him unprepared, unarmed; his hands are cut off, and he's killed. He realizes when he falls asleep, it will all have been a dream.

  He wakes, realizes the ship has arrived, and dives overboard.

  Guards report a fallen tree on the security fence; they think a bear dug up the roots. Logan notes it's always easy to break into a place designed to keep you from breaking out. He reaches the door to Dept. K (see X-Force I:1); he always knew he'd wind up back here.
