Summary

Bucky and Logan sit across from each other in the sewers beneath Belgrade. They both remember everything now, and all Bucky can do is apologize for killing his wife.

Logan remembers her, Itsu; it was love at first sight. He'd gone to Jasmine Falls in Japan to seek redemption; Bando Suboro was recommended to him by Ogun (see Kitty Pryde & Wolverine LS). They exchange bows, and Suboro shows him the village, full of ex-samurai whom he's taught a better way.

He finds Logan sleeping on the ground and yells at him, saying he's not a dog but a man. This will be his home, but he has to build it. He collects bamboo and builds a house; he wed Itsu in his fourth year of training, and she became pregnant. He was the happiest man on earth that day, and a man; the village celebrated, the men performing a stylized warrior's dance, as a show of strength and honor, and Logan struggled to keep his instincts under control.

There was an explosion on a nearby mountain; Logan instinctively popped his claws, injuring a dancer. Suboro knows it was Muramasa, a powerful madman, maybe an immortal. As Suboro heals the souls of broken men, Muramasa makes men into weapons. He says Logan will meet him, and that will be his final test.

Logan had to leave, because he dishonored his clan; he went to say goodbye to Itsu but smelled her blood; she'd been shot.

Now Logan knows it was Bucky. He'd been tracking Logan and killed her to get him to chase him back to Madripoor, but he disappeared instead. He'd realized he'd wasted five years trying to become a better man, when in fact he was never a man at all. He went to Muramasa and embraced vengeance, wanting to kill all his enemies. Muramasa agreed to help him, to make him a weapon.

Bucky never heard of Muramasa, but a month later, he'd still been holding his position, waiting. He saw Muramasa's samurai carrying Logan and attacked them. Logan was picked up a few hours later, and he left on his own. Logan asks if he was followed, but he's sure he wasn't.

Logan starts to leave but then decides to tell Bucky a few things he doesn't know, things which shock him, and Logan's not sure if he wanted to help or hurt him.

He gets fake id, some of his old gear, and goes to China. He finds Muramasa to reclaim what's his. Muramasa tells him to say it, so he says, "My revenge." Muramasa hands him a sword and tells him to wield it like an angry god.

Note: the story continues in Wolverine: Origins, a new regular series for Marvel's best-selling mass-murderer.
