Summary
Back to where the last story arc had started (see Wolverine #132), Logan is having a drink at Harry's bar, conversing with Harry about Harry's operations in sending mercenaries on missions in exchange for pay. As the two converse, in walks Cable, who bears a strange resemblence in facial features to Harry, as Cable and Harry discovers. Cable had been looking for Wolverine after talking with Storm.
Suddenly, from above, a body falls through the skylight, whom Harry recognizes as Longbow, one of his mercenaries. Cable and Logan heads outside to investigate and corners the culprit. To their surprise, the person they cornered was a strange-looking mutated creature which looked like a Lobster. Cable and Logan tries to fight the creature: Cable with his psimitar, Logan with his shortened claws (his claws were not a full length yet, as he had broken them during the fight on the prison world from the past story arc). Neither one of them were having much success in beating the creature, as Logan's stumped claws were doing very little damage, and Cable was almost knocked off the roof. From above, a helicopter begins firing rounds of bullets at them, and Cable and Logan are forced to take cover. The strange creature boards the helicopter, and as it hovers away, Cable tries one last attempt by channeling his psionic energy through his psimitar to hit the helicopter, but it was out of range.
Back at the bar, Longbow had regained consciousness. She tells Logan that she and her other fellow mercenaries had been approached in Madripoor to seek out the person who was responsible for creating the creature that Logan and Cable had encountered because these creature, and other similar creatures, had been linked to many disapperances and killings all over the world. Each time they were getting close to finding out who it was, they were attacked by these creatures. After hearing that Cable had disabled the helicopter with one of his blasts, she directs Logan and Cable to a pier near the ocean where she believed they would crash.
At this pier, Logan and Cable finds the remains of the helicopter floating around. Suddenly, they are ambushed by another mutated looking creature which beared the resemblance of a two-headed gorilla with a human's head. Cable is about to help defend Logan, who had been taken down, but he is ambushed by an even stranger-looking creature. As they battle, the ground around them suddenly comes alive and engulfs them into its gut. Inside, Cable and Logan are introduced to a madman named Arnim Zola, The Bio-Fanatic, who was behind the creation of these strange creatures and was transporting around in this creature, who he codenamed Doughboy. Logan manages to injure the creature which had engulfed Cable and Logan. As the creature whinced in pain, Arnim Zola drops some kind of hand-held controller, which Cable is able to grab a hold of. The other creatures which Arnim Zola had created begins to attack Logan and Cable, but Cable, with the controller, manages to fend off these monsters. Having enough of what Logan and Cable were doing, Arnim Zola has the living mass open up, which drops Logan, Cable, and two of the mutated creatures out, falling hundred of feet from the air.
Cable uses his telekinesis to lower all of them safely to the ground. With the controller that Cable still had in his possession, the two mutated creatures would be completely harmless. To get more answers, they decided to see Professor X to see if he could look into their minds to search for clues. Logan mentions to Cable how he had caught a familiar scent while inside Doughboy; Cable reasons that Longbow had mentioned that Zola's creatures had kidnapped many people, and it was quite conceivable that the creatures they were fighting were the kidnapped people that had been twisted by Zola. Hearing police sirens coming, the two leaves the scene to get some food.
Back inside Doughboy, it is revealed that Viper, Logan's wife, had been captured by Zola, and Zola had plans to bring Viper to "an old acquaintance of mine" who would be interested in acquiring Viper.
