Grave Undertakings

Summary

Landing in Osaka, Japan, Corrigan and Tyger Tiger attempts to get a seemingly dead Logan pass customs there, but is denied. Dai-Kumo, aloing with Reiko and Goro, appears, telling them that he runs all the criminal activities, including the customs agent, in Osaka, which is why they were not getting any clearance. Since it was a tradition of the Yakuza to show respect for valiant enemies, he wanted Logan buried in his personal plot, so Goro and Reiko takes the coffin with them while Tyger and Corrigan are kicked out of Osaka.

While in the plane, Corrigan is worried about Logan. Since Tyger had gave Logan a triple dosage of a curare derivative that induces a state of catatonia (basically, symptoms of death)(triple dosage since Logan was quite resistance to one dosage), he was worried about how they could get back to help him when he wakes up. Tiger tells him to fly to Kobe, where they can land (since she had contacts there), and that they'd go for Logan from there.

Meanwhile, at the cemetary, Logan is buried there in the coffin. Goro suspects Reiko had wanted him killed when he had encountered Logan, saying that Logan was probably her last hope in killing him, since a prophet had told him that he could only be slain with a blade wielded by a dead man.

At Dai-Kumo's mansion, we see how they've got a giant vat of all the fluid that they had extracted from the monkey's brain. Since the monkeys were now dead, they've got a monopoly on the stuff. Back inside, they were holding a celebration to introduce the drug (whose official name was Rayden the Thunderbolt).

Back at the cemetary, it was only Reiko alone. She is thinking to herself about why he (Logan) couldn't have killed Goro and set her free. Suddenly, Logan wakes up. He suddenly discovers that he's been buried underground. Clawing his way out, he makes it to the surface. He was about to attack Reiko when he recognizes her flower scent (she had threw one of her flowers down into the grave near Logan). He demands to know where Dai-Kumo was.

Back at the mansion now, Dai-Kumo introduces this new drug. He uses a wolf for demonstration, feeding it one of the thunderbolt, and showing how the wolf manages to rip the three hungry tigers to pieces. Logan then bursts in. A big brawl begins. One of the man almost falls into the pit. Grabbing onto the side, he ended up helping the wolf by allowing the wolf to climb up his back. It was about to attack Logan. But since the wolf still retained the natural instinct of a wild beast, plus Logan also had the instinct of a wild beast, the wolf chose not to attack Logan.

Logan gives chase after the doctor. The doctor tricks him onto the catwalk. He pushes a button, which causes a door to open. As Logan was falling into the concentrated liquid thunderbolt, he manages to pull the doctor into it too, killing the doctor. Goro shows up to search for both of them. Next thing he knows, Logan had sliced through the vat. Logan was still alive, thanks to his healing factor. Facing Goro one-on-one, Goro takes a shot of the Thunderbolt. He charges at Logan. But Logan easily disables him by slicing him at the knees. Goro demands that Logan fulfill the Prophecy, but Logan says no. Logan then goes looking for Dai-Kumo, but discovers him stabbed in the heart by Reiko's umbrella sword. Reiko was nowhere to be found, but Logan hoped she got away so that she could search for a new life. Tiger and Corrigan then bursts in, but the fight was already over. All three leaves back for Madripoor.
