Showdown in Lowtown!

Summary

Wolverine and Gambit heads down to Madripoor to take a break after the Phalanx incidents. Down there, at the Princess Bar (where Logan usually hangs out when he lived in Madripoor). Thinking that there was something wrong because the bar was so quiet, Logan and Gambit bursts into the bar, only to be surprised to see that his friends in Madripoor had been planning a surprise welcome-back party for him. There, he meets up with the entire old gang: O'Donnell, Rose, Corrigan, Police Chief Tai, and even Tyger Tiger. While they are celebrating, on the rooftop, we see two Hand ninjas planning to kill Logan below, only to be shot down by a mysterious fellow. As Logan and Tyger were dancing, the two ninjas falls through the skylight and onto their dance floor. Logan and Gambit goes to investigate.

On the rooftop, while searching for what clues as to what had happened, Gambit asks Logan about Sabretooth and whether it was possible that Sabretooth was the one who just helped him disable the two ninjas since the smell that Logan got seemed familiar. Logan explains to him how he doubts it, and tells him this story about how in the past when he, Sabretooth, and Maverick had worked together and how Sabretooth always took the big risk moves and yet, always came out okay, and yet, he was never a team player; only caring about himself over his teammates. Just then, Logan save Gambit from an energy shot, and the two X-Men gives chase after the culprit.

When they caught the culprit, Logan discovers that it was Maverick who had been shooting at them. Without holstering his weapon, Maverick threatens to kill the two X-Men. Logan though manages to knock the gun out of Maverick's hand and realize that Maverick's true intention was to have himself be killed by Logan. Logan asks why, and Maverick reveals how he was in the middle stages of the legacy virus infection, and how he was willing to die now, but would want to die from a warrior's death. Logan refused to do it, and tells Maverick to go do his own life. Maverick leaves, but leaves with a word of advice to Logan to tell him to get on with what's left of his own life and make it count.
