The Lurker in the Machine

Summary

Cyber and the members of the Dark Riders arrive to Egypt to meet with the Dark Riders' leader, Genesis. Arriving there, they are met by a young man named Jamil who would lead them to the Citadel where Genesis resides.

In the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in Massachussetts, the members of Generation X are waiting for Logan to arrive. They were a little bit surprised how Logan ended up walking the distance from the X-Mansion to get to their school. Logan had arrived to talk with the memebers of the GenX team about fighting skills and techniques.

The next morning, Wolverine gives his first lesson to the GenX members. He tells them how you have to go into a fight with the mindset of winning, to never retreat, and to never surrender. He tells Skin to attack him. A bit hesistantly, Skin tries to attack, but Logan still manages to take him out, teaching Skin that he should never look at his opponent's hand or weapon, but to look at the eyes. For his next lesson, he disappears into the biosphere (where he was holding his demonstration) and it was up to the members of the GenX to locate him. After a bit, Husk was the first one to find Logan, but she noticed something was wrong because Logan was frozen. Logan quietly tells them to leave quickly, and once they were all out, tells Banshee to lock up the biosphere and run a full scan of it.

The next morning, Logan left already. Banshee comments about he didn't find anything within the biosphere, and felt that maybe Logan was just paranoid. Jubilee and Skin, though, insists that they did see something last night. Skin tells of how the night before, when he went to get something to eat during the night, he saw Wolverine heading to the biosphere. Waking up Jubilee, the two GenX members followed to the biosphwere where inside, they saw Logan fighting some kind of forest spirit. Though no punches were thrown, Wolverine had the berserker rage look on his face. Eventually, the spirit leaves, but not without taking Jubilee and Skin to the floor because the only exit was through their location. When they asked Logan what it was, Logan replies that it was a Token, and then, like the Token, Logan leaves the place.

Banshee tells how a Token is actually a wraith of the dead or of the living. When asked by Jubilee as to how Wolverine got the Token to leave, Banshee's reply was that Logan's presence there drove it out: the Token could not abide by one of its own.
