First And Last

Summary

  Note: this occurs after UXM 378 and is part of the Ages of Apocalypse.

  In December 2099, alien students tour an earth museum with a commemorative hologram of Scott. Teacher explains his sacrifice, and that Xavier led a team of mutant Skrulls to bring peace and safety to the galaxy, even finding a way to feed Galactus, then establishing their base as X-World.

  Jean shows up, looking only a few years older. Fiz and his Skrulls greet the X-Men, who have just arrived for the centennial. Ororo has evolved to pure elemental, Xavier is ancient, and Piotr has grown a steel moustache. Jean stays behind to talk to Scott's memorial; she has never remarried. Hank has got bald and fat, spent some time with the Fantastic Foursome, and is now on a 5-year mission with the Federation. Bobby is all spiky and heads patrols on the perimeter. Piotr has two great-granddaughters who look like Kitty, who has passed on; Remy and Marrow are married and old. Rogue arrives, finally in control of her power and still young, and Marrow grabs Remy's arm tight. Sunfire mistakes X-Man for Cable.

  Magneto's Brotherhood arrives from beyond the rim, including Lorna and a mostly T-O Cable, and is immediately challenged by the Alliance-X guards. Magneto and Lorna push them back; they are here in peace. Magneto and Xavier debate; Xavier admits he is finally dying, from direct exposure to the now extinct Legacy Virus. Ororo tells Jean to offer him her forgiveness; he still blames himself for Scott's death, but she blames herself.

  A Shi'ar announces they found an alien device that could cure Xavier, but it needs power. The X-Men volunteer, Xavier protests but collapses, and they power up. Xavier calls out that it's a trick; the Shi'ar is actually Apocalypse, who has reconstructed the Celestial machine and manipulated time and space to take advantage of the X-Men in their dotage. He then reverses time, to drain all the power of their lives backwards. Jean probes his mind, deeply, and finds Scott, still fighting, looping the X-Men's energies back to them.

  Back in Egypt in the present, Cable attacks, but Jean holds him back to protect Scott. Apocalypse still has enough power to port away with the Monolith.

  They return to the mansion. Xavier didn't detect Scott at all and believes him dead and himself a failure. Logan is recovering; Lorna goes off with Magneto; the mutant Skrulls are still on hand; Jean takes a taxi and leaves.
