Summary
With the departure of the Minicons from Cybertron, the Autobot-Decepticon war degenerates into ruin. Megatron's handful of remaining Minicons allows him to conquer the planet, enslaving the populace and reducing the Autobots to an underground rebellion. But the escaped Minicons fared no better, as an engine malfunction leaves them prisoners in their ship as it drifts across the cosmos. Their aimless flight eventually ends when it crashes into a planetary moon, knocking them inactive while a small pod crashes on the blue-green planet below.
A million years pass. On the nearby planet of Earth, the pod is now buried in a hillside in a suburban neighborhood. Three kids -- Rad, Carlos, and Alexis -- use passwords and secret-agent code names as they work on their newest scheme, Project Supernova. When Carlos announces that it's ready, the three drag their tarp-covered contraption to the edge of a nearby gorge, unaware that they've attracted the attention of two neighborhood bullies.
After a short speech from Rad, the three kids push their creation into the gorge. Project Supernova -- a soap-box derby racer lifted by helium balloons -- has its maiden flight abruptly cut short as the bullies shoot it down with slingshots. When Rad follows Supernova's wreck to retrieve a helmet, he falls into a crevice and accidentally bumps into a Minicon control panel. An energy bolt arcs back to Cybertron, where it's detected by the Decepticons and the Autobots, who quickly make plans to travel to Earth.
Meanwhile, the kids are astonished to meet the four newly-revived Minicons, Sparkplug, Highwire, Grindor, and Sureshock. Despite Alexis' fears that the robots may be dangerous, Rad hides them in his garage and Carlos gives them some tools to repair themselves. As Rad's mom calls him to dinner, the three agree to regroup in the morning.
Working through the night, the Minicons wait until morning to present the kids with a "new and improved Project Supernova" -- an antigravity sled kitbashed from assorted junk and supplies. Sparkplug thanks them for reviving the Minicons, explains that they believe the other Minicons are scattered around the planet, and asks the kids to be their guides. Despite Alexis' initial refusal, the seven are soon enthusiastically flying over the city -- unaware that Megatron has suddenly materialized behind them...
