Apocalypse Lives

Summary

Note: this is part of Onslaught Phase 1.

Ozymandias: blind but sees all; stone but with fire in his veins. Apocalypse, once his slave, now his master, has awakened (last seen X-Men II:16, Jan-93). He immediately notices Xavier and Magneto have united. He says the age of wonders and of heroes is near its end, and Uatu, sorrowful, arrives to observe.

The Avengers fly to Westchester and see the mansion in ruins. Nate still senses the X-Men are alive, except for Xavier. They come under attack, and Quicksilver races to confront Remy; Bishop pulls a gun on him; the Scarlet Witch rumbles the ground under him. The Avengers explain they just want to help, and to know what happened.

Ororo throws a lightning bolt; the rest of the X-Men are behind her. Jean starts to scan the Avengers' minds, to make sure they're still the good guys. Nate breaks through psi-plane interference and painfully pulls memories of Onslaught from the X-Men. Scott arrives and blasts him, then debriefs in the more traditional verbal format. He says Xavier has become Onslaught; Nate says he always knew he was evil (X-Man 10); Logan goes for his throat.

In Scotland, Moira assembles Excalibur and says the key to stopping Onslaught may be the Xavier Protocols (see Excalibur 100). Jean, Scott, Warren and Betsy plan to fly there.

Bishop replays Jean's distress call, blames himself for not realizing Xavier was the threat, and apologizes to Remy. X-Force arrives in Westchester to guard Nate; Ororo says they need to find and protect Cable; Cap says they need to warn the Fantastic Four that Onslaught wants Franklin. Logan goes off on his motorcycle, playing a hunch (Wolverine 104).

Onslaught is in Manhattan; Dark Beast promises him attendants.

  Note: Phase 1 continues in Cable 34, Hulk 444, X-Man 18, Avengers 401, Fantastic Four 415, and X-Men II:45.
