Summary

  Val has called X-Factor to Washington, where hysterical anti-mutant crowds have gathered. A gunshot rings out, and they surge forward to quell the crowd, capture the gunman, and get his victim an ambulance.

  On Muir Island, Forge, Wolverine, and Rogue are ready to attack the Shadow King but are attacked by Banshee, whom they subdue and release from the Shadow King's control with one of Forge's gizmos (a microscopic neurosynaptic buffer, to be specific).

  The Shadow King is creating hatred around the world and using a mutated Polaris to focus the energy back to himself. Also, he has taken agent Reisz as a host body and is controlling Val.

  X-Factor enters Muir Island Research Center, defeat Moira, Madrox, Psylocke, Gambit, and Jubilee, and are attacked by Legion. Meanwhile, Reisz reveals his true colors and attacks Xavier. Mystique emerges from behind the form of Val Cooper, and blows Reisz's head off, pushing the Shadow King back to the astral plane. This also causes Legion to go out of control.

  X-Factor, and the others find Polaris but are unable to break her link to the Shadow King because it would kill her. The Shadow King takes Legion as his next host, and he blows up the island.
