Summary
Earth 616: Angel wakes in Beak's arms, remembering everything; they race to find their kids, all but one of whom have been de-mutated; Angel has lost her wings, and Beak looks human again (while retaining a large nose). Happily ever…
The Panoptichron: Heather observes and cries, happy for Beak, but they've still lost Calvin, and a horror is unleashed on infinite earths.
Earth 15731: it's so 80's in Pittsburgh, with Member's Only jackets and parachute pants everywhere. Two thieves argue about rap versus hair bands while gloating over their stolen CD players. Then Justice appears, sees the evil in their souls, and blasts the flesh off their bones.
Wisconsin: the DP7 paranormals break out of "The Clinic" but are interrupted by a flash of light: Proteus in Calvin's body, arriving in the New Universe. He asks directions to Pittsburgh.
Heather traces where Proteus went to; Clarice is frantic to rescue Calvin and rushes there with the team, while Heather researches why Proteus chose that particular earth.
Wisconsin: the Clinic guards order the paranormals to freeze or be shot; Proteus immediately flies off, leaving the rest to their fate, but then the Exiles pop in. Clarice, in a rush, blinks the guards' weapons away, and then blinks away with DP7 to get information. They learn Proteus is en route to Pittsburgh, and Heather reports this world has none of the usual superheroes, just some superhumans created by the "White Event" in 1986. News to DP7, for whom it's still 1987. Clarice blinks away, leaving DP7 in the woods confused.
Pittsburgh: Justice warns people to leave the city; a newspaper vendor blames Reagan for all the crazies on the streets. Proteus flies towards the city, happy to be in a place with no House of M or Interpol to bug him, happy the Exiles showed him a way to escape his world. On this earth, there's a man with an indefatigable power source, and Proteus plans to take his body: Star Brand.
West Mifflin, PA: Star Brand checks on his friend Myron, whose apartment is a mess. He says the woman who realized he was the "flying man" was a Libyan agent, so he had her arrested and flew to Libya to teach Qaddafi a lesson (note: I believe we spelled it with a "K" in the 80's). Myron is distracted; he says some people knew he'd be here, so Star Brand lights up the room to reveal the Exiles. They warn him against Proteus, but he's tired of people trying to control him.
Proteus finds Star Brand's apartment empty, so he looks around, to learn about his new host body. He sees pictures of two women, one with kids and one with a thong. He finds himself thinking of Clarice: Kevin's thoughts, and he suppresses him. He's also had to fight the urge to turn to metal, which is poison to him.
A knock at the door; he pops bone claws; Justice enters and blasts him nearly to his skeleton, but he survives and blasts back with Cyclops's eye beam. Justice shields himself and warns Proteus this won't end like he expects.
West Mifflin: Heather feeds Creed info about Star Brand, to try to calm him; they explain the old guy who gave him the Star Brand first tried to get rid of it by imprinting it on an asteroid. That caused the White Event, which caused paranormals. Creed claims to be one, but Star Brand asks him who won the Super Bowl last year; when Creed can't answer, Star Brand is sure they're lying aliens and attacks.
Notes: the New Universe was launched by Marvel at 4:22 pm EST, July 22, 1986, as a separate set of comics set in a more normal-ish universe: no aliens, no mutants. The comics were Codename: Spitfire, DP7, Justice, Kickers Inc., Merc, Nightmask, Psi-Force, and the Star Brand. They didn't last long.
