Summary
Wolverine joins up with Canada's superhero team, Alpha Flight, to break into a heavily-guarded compound. Working as a team, Alpha Flight and Wolverine takes care of the guards outside and gains entrance into the compound. Once inside, Logan tells Vindicator that her husband, Guardian, was the one who got himself captured by a band of hi-tech arms trader and knowing the danger, Guardian should've found another line of work. Furthermore, Logan has a gut feeling that the lack of any resistance inside made it highly suspicious, and he felt as if someone was watching them.
Through a camera, the mutant known as Modok, who gained his vast mental powers through a mutation accident, and his men were watching Logan and the rest of the Alpha Flight squad through their compound. A shadowy associate with Modok recognizes Logan as Wolverine, who was friends with the captive they held, Guardian. Modok's men protests to Modok, with success, that they should stop toying with Wolverine and Alpha Flight, and should capture them immediately.
As Alpha Flight and Wolverine progresses down a corridor, Logan and Vindicator continues their discussion: about how the department and the team had changed since they last met, how Department H (the department which owns Alpha Flight) had reformed the original Alpha Flight squad and the new members who had been with Alpha Flight had been grouped into a new group called Beta Flight, as well as reflecting on how much had changed since they first met. Suddenly, as Logan was passing through a doorway, the group was ambushed, and Logan and Alpha Flight were separated by a metal gate which closed between them. Alpha Flight is knocked out by gas emitted into their room. Wolverine, being in the other room, was safe. As the unconscious Alpha Flight members were carried away, Logan is able to break into another floor of the compound where Guardian was being examined and experimented. Logan takes out the soldiers in the room, and forces the doctor to free the restraints on the unconscious Guardian.
In another part of the compound, Modok is told by one of his men that Wolverine had gained access to the lower level of their compound and had found Guardian, but Modok's men were unable to get in as the doctor had been forced by Wolverine to shield off the entrances to the room. Modok sends the shadowy figure, Kane, (aka Weapon X), to deal with Wolverine.
